voestalpine relies on the success factor of its own specialist training. With the start of the new training year on September 1, 372 young people across Austria are beginning their apprenticeships at the international steel and technology group. 169 apprentices are starting in Upper Austria, 160 in Styria, and 43 in Lower Austria. voestalpine currently offers attractive career prospects to around 1,600 apprentices worldwide—1,070 of them in Austria. This makes the Group the largest industrial apprentice trainer in the country.

Targeted support of young professionals is a central component of voestalpine’s corporate strategy and a key success factor for positioning the Group in the global markets of the future.

Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG

In economically challenging times, we are consciously focusing on training young talent. With a training budget of around EUR 100,000 per apprentice, we are creating an environment that equally promotes both technological expertise and personal development.

Young people can look forward to future-oriented, practical training and a wide range of career opportunities in an international technology and industrial environment.

State-of-the-art technologies for top training

voestalpine currently offers around 30 different apprenticeships at 14 Austrian training locations. Almost 480 apprentices are presently being prepared for their professional future in Upper Austria, around 450 in Styria, and around 140 in Lower Austria. The specialist training takes place in state-of-the-art training facilities at the highest technological level: virtual reality glasses, tablets, robotics, and digital learning platforms are integral parts of the teaching concept. In the 2024/25 business year, the pass rate for apprenticeship final examinations in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland was once again almost 100%. In addition to professional qualifications, voestalpine also places great importance on the personal development of its up-and-coming talent. Language trips, excursions, health programs, and the annual Group Apprentice Day promote team spirit, personal responsibility, and international perspectives.

Consistently increasing the proportion of women

Promoting diversity and equality has always been a fundamental principle at voestalpine. The Group is therefore one of the pioneers in Austria when it comes to offering young women a technical apprenticeship. Female apprentices are now working in many of the Group’s 50 apprenticeship professions. The proportion of girls in apprenticeships is currently 23%, while the general proportion of women among young technical specialists is 18%.
