We are actively committed to environmentally friendly and goal-oriented production, the conscientious use of valuable resources and an intact working environment. We take responsibility for our actions and work passionately on our green future.
Facts & Figures
Environmental milestones

Our production and manufacturing processes are not always entirely emission-free. It is therefore all the more important to further develop our plants with research and new technologies in order to minimize the negative environmental impact on air, soil and water as much as possible and to use energy as efficiently as possible and to further increase the share of renewable energy.
Circular economy and life cycle assessment
We determine the environmental impact of our products using life cycle assessments (LCA). This involves examining the entire process and supply chain in order to reduce our ecological footprint. We publish environmental product declarations (EPD) for many products. For us, comprehensive waste and recycling management goes beyond consistent recycling.
- ∞ Multi-recycling: Steel products can be recycled again and again to make new steel products
- 75% of all steel products that have ever been produced are still in use
- 50% increase in scrap use in crude steel production by FY 2029/30
Our path to green steel production
With greentec steel, we have launched a visionary type of steel production - with the aim of producing steel with net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. It is Austria's largest climate protection program, which aims to cut 5 % of domestic emissions. Overview of the key milestones (reference year 2019 phase 1 & 2) with regard to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions:
- 30% reduction in GHG emissions (Scope 1&2) by 2029 (Phase 1)
- 50% reduction in GHG emissions (Scope 1&2) by 2035 (Phase 2)
- Net zero by 2050 (Phase 3)

Sustainable products & processes

We have been implementing the circular economy at process and product level in many areas for a long time. Steel products are inherently durable and contribute to the further development of the circular economy approach.
Water, air, soil & biodiversity

We periodically record around 150 key figures, for example on air emissions, energy and material efficiency, water, waste and recycling management as well as environmentally relevant investments and expenses.
Climate protection Net zero emissions

The climate protection program greentec steel, with which we aim to achieve steel production with net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 at the latest, is currently being implemented as planned.
Circular economy & resources

Steel is considered a permanent material due to its durability, reparability and the possibility of processing it again and again as scrap into new products. Steel therefore makes an important contribution to the circular economy.
